Overview

An exciting career opportunity is currently available to be a part of an organization involved in the research, design, and development of novel medical devices.  This position involves generating concepts and prototypes that can be used for bench-top and animal lab testing, and developing the designs such that they can be manufactured at small scale or easily scaled up as needed.  The function will primarily be involved with projects in early research and development phases, undergoing initial or early clinical trials both in the US and OUS.  The role may involve implementation and management of small-scale pilot production of medical devices and delivery systems.

Responsibilities

  • Gather and review design input requirements
  • Establish and review design outputs
  • Prototype concepts
  • Design/iterate device designs using CAD software
  • Perform engineering analysis on designs
  • Analyze and document design and process risks
  • Develop/refine manufacturing processes
  • Perform design and process verification/validation activities
  • Document activities in design history file
  • Provide leadership and mentoring for technical and manufacturing personnel
  • Work together on a team with project leaders, development engineers, physicians, clinical, regulatory and quality team members

 

Qualifications

  • MS. or PhD in mechanical engineering or equivalent industry experience preferred,  Bachelors degree with 3+ years experience will be considered
  • Minimum of two years of experience in mechanical design of manufacture components and systems
  • Experience or expertise in design of injection-molded components
  • Experience with engineering analysis tools: CAD, FEA, etc.
  • Familiarity with material requirements associated with medical use
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both spoken and written form
  • Ability and commitment to operate in a team-based environment
