Overview

This internship will be a one year commitment.  The person in this position has responsibility for completing assigned tasks within ongoing process development engineering project(s). This person is expected to work independently to complete tasks and meet goals as assigned. This person is responsible for executing bench testing, data analysis, and assigned tasks related to process development improvements, process validation, and risk management. Specific responsibilities include authoring reports, executing testing/experiments, statistical analysis, and reporting results to Engineering Management.

 

Responsibilities

Areas of Responsibility

  • Responsible for sub-projects related to the primary functional areas listed above.

Technical Knowledge

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a laboratory environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a related field.
  • Knowledge in process optimization and transfer to manufacturing. Basic knowledge of regenerative medicine or tissue engineering technologies preferred.

Decision Making

  • Uses experience and judgement to recommend path forward. Consults with senior team members.

Collaboration

  • Works with the local team and other departments to complete assigned work.

Change/Innovation

  • Demonstrates innovation in product development and experimental work.
  • Identities and records improvement opportunities.
  • Executes innovative project work with development engineers toward the clinical application of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.
  • Identifies improvement opportunities within the Quality System.
  • Submits change orders for Quality System improvements.
  • Identifies process improvements to make early phase new product development projects more sustainably manufacturable.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related scientific field.
  • Ability to design and execute experiments intended to support feasibility, development, and transfer to manufacturing efforts.
  • Good documentation skills with the ability to appropriately record laboratory activities
  • Able to write laboratory protocols and reports, as well as perform data analysis
  • Experience with application of statistical methods (t-test, ANOVA, confidence limits, tolerance intervals, linear regression modeling).
  • Experience in laboratory and familiar with lab equipment, manufacturing equipment, and manufacturing processes common for biomaterial processing
  • Good Task and time management skills
  • Project management skills; able to effectively communicate task status and project updates to team member, management, and other stakeholders.
  • Able to receive and appropriately act upon ideas, suggestions, and feedback from peers, managers, and other stakeholders
  • Able to work both independently and as a member of a team depending on the needs of the project

 

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations
    Limited exposure to hazardous chemicals used in the manufacture of the product
  • Physical demands are typical of an office and laboratory environment
  • Willing to work with material derived from animal tissues
