The Scientific Communications team is in search of a Scientific Editor to join their group, which comprises medical writers, medical reviewers, librarians, and editors. The Scientific Editors at Cook Research Incorporated support writers who prepare medical and scientific documents based on both established and innovative medical technologies. Scientific editors provide substantive editorial support for the Scientific Communications, Regulatory, and Clinical teams, and apply their talents by contributing to literature reviews, abstracts, posters, presentations, manuscripts, clinical evaluation reports, clinical study reports, and regulatory documents, including IDE and PMA submissions. The successful applicant will demonstrate knowledge in science and skill in writing/editing and be able to collaborate with a variety of different teams. The ideal candidate will possess an eagerness to learn, a willingness to compromise, and an awareness of self to know when to ask for help.


• Edit text, including rewriting sentences or paragraphs, to ensure clarity, readability, desired emphasis, and scientific accuracy, and to eliminate ambiguous or incorrect statements
• Identify content gaps
• Correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, and syntax errors
• Verify accuracy of data transcribed from statistical outputs and source documents to text and tables
• Verify accuracy of cited information and placement of reference elements
• Review documents/projects for content consistency (among tables, text, presentation slides, etc.), terminology and abbreviation consistency, and style and tone consistency
• Format documents for accuracy and consistency (eg, text, table, and poster layout) and correctness (eg, section, table, and figure numbers)
• Ensure that authors meet requirements and follow reporting guidelines as specified by the target venue or regulatory agency
• Provide support to the Regulatory Coordinator during preparation of regulatory submissions


• Bachelor's degree either (1) in a science-related discipline and with editing experience, or (2) in humanities and with a background in writing and editing, with substantial working knowledge of science
• Understand medical terminology
• Understand manuscript preparation
• Understand regulatory submission requirements
• Demonstrate familiarity with basic statistical methods, analyses, and interpretation
• Understand Microsoft Office software
• Communicate clearly and concisely in both spoken and written forms
• Organize and prioritize projects successfully
• Work on multiple projects (multi-task) within time constraints
• Participate in a team-based environment
