The Environmental Health and Safety Engineer is responsible for reviewing, auditing and editing facility plans and training material and programs to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies.


- Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies including but not limited to: Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA).
- Collaborate with consultants, contractors, and employees to improve processes, plans, procedures, and overall compliance of Environmental Health and Safety.
- Waste Handling, ensuring proper disposal of waste items.
- Develop improvements for engineering, administrative, or Personal Protective Equipment controls.
- Respond to first aid and emergencies regarding fire, inclement weather, or chemicals.
- Train, support, guide and evaluate personnel on all assigned safety and emergency procedures. Provide leadership to the First Aid Team.
- Maintain and update all Departmental EHS Regulations and Guidelines.
- Establish, conduct and evaluate annual fire drills as required.
- Perform EHS role defined by Cook's Waste Contengency Plan.
- Maintain SDS data base, and Chemical Inventory.
- Train and maintain records for Blood borne Pathogen and Hepatitis immunizations.
- Maintain documentation of all EHS programs, results and reports.
- Develop, conduct and evaluate Job Safety Analysis and ergonomic assessments.
- Maintain accurate and timely reports and records.
- Assist as needed with investigation of work related injuries and concerns.
- Establish, maintain and monitor Plant Evacuation Maps and Emergency Procedures.
- Prepare and maintain accurate documentation consistent with the requirements of pertinent regulations and Cook’s Quality Management  System where applicable.
- Must maintain all training requirements for the position, while seeking out opportunities for continuous development and growth.

- Must work and interact effectively and professionally with and for others throughout various levels of the global organization.
- Must strictly adhere to safety requirements.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Must maintain company quality and quantity standards.
- Must have effective communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative and independent work situations and environments with
minimal supervision.
- Ability to remain calm and receptive in fast paced situations.


- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health and Safety.
- EHS experience including in Chemistry, Industrial Hygiene (air and noise sampling), RCRA, NFPA, 70E, or Ergonomics preferred.
- OSHA, DOT, RCRA,. HAZWOPER, EPA, ISO training preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn similar business software as applicable.

- 2 years of Environmental Health and Safety experience preferred. 


Physical Requirements:

- Works under general office environment conditions.
- Utilizes close visual acuity for working with computers and equipment.
- Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, and communicate.
- Occasionally lifting with moderate exertion during shift.
