  • Overview

    The Windows System Administrator Specialist is responsible for designing, maintaining and administrating production and development Windows systems in a 24/7 data center. This position is part of the Infrastructure team which supports the global productions and manufacturing servers for Cook companies.

    Responsibilities

    • Administer a complex site alone or assist in the administration of a larger site

    • Initiate some new responsibilities and help to plan for the future of the site/network/datacenter

    • Assist junior system administrators and/or operators

    • Understanding of converged networks and technologies

    • Provide routine support on hardware and software problems

    • Monitor system activities

    • Evaluate and/or recommend purchases

    • Receive general instructions for new responsibilities from supervisor

    • Maintain accurate and timely reports, records and documentation

    • Provide emergency on-call support for system or network issues and perform occasional after-hours/weekend maintenance updates to systems and servers

    • Provide liasion support for IT consulting companies and vendors as needed

    • Must work and interact effectively and professionally with and for others throughout various levels of the global organization.
    • Must strictly adhere to safety requirements.

    • Must maintain company quality and quantity standards.
    • Must have effective communication skills, which may include oral or written
    • Excellent problem solving skills and ability to work in collaborative and independent work situations and environments with minimal supervision.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or other related field, or experience of such kind and amount as to provide a comparable background

    • 2+ years Windows server administration experience

    • Advanced Windows troubleshooting experience

    • Experience with VMware virtualization or with an equivalent product

    • Experience with Cisco UCS based infrastructure

    • Experience with the deployment and maintenance of Windows based Servers and systems, including applications designed around Active Directory, Exchange, SQL, Navision, Business Objects and other Windows based Middleware applications

    • High comfort level with PC-Based hardware and systems and working knowledge of how to quickly diagnose and resolve system-level failures

    • Understanding of SAN-oriented technologies, such as iSCSI/Fiber hardware

    • Understanding of converged networks and technologies

    • Comfortable in a command line interface such as PowerCLI, PowerShell and/or vSphere CLI

    • Familiarity with enterprise-class backup solutions (preferably CommValut)

    • Familiarity with system monitoring, such as Nagios, Zabbix, Splunk and/or System Center

     

    Physical Requirements/Work Environment

    • Works under general office environment conditions

    • Sitting for extended periods, utilizing close visual acuity for working with computers, etc.

    • International and domestic travel as required

    • Occasionally required to lift, stand, walk, stoop, kneel and crouch

    • Requires occasional early morning or late evening teleconferences

    • Requires ability to work outside normal working hours to provide on-call support and occasional after-hours/weekend support

    • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job, subject to reasonable accommodation requirements under the ADA
