  • Overview

    The Application Support Engineer at Cook Research Incorporated will serve as the primary administrator for various software platforms.  This position is responsible for installation, administration, maintenance, and upgrades of Cook Research Incorporated application platforms. In addition, this position will ensure the implementation of well-designed IT solutions and provides hand-on expertise to administer and support the day-to-day operations of the application platform systems.

    Responsibilities

    • Work with customers and other IT teams to identify application platform requirements and define supporting solution functionality and capabilities

    • Design application server environments by coordinating with software solution teams and working with infrastructure, data, and security teams

    • Installs, implements, administers, supports, maintains, and upgrades server-side applications, off-the-shelf software, or cloud based platforms

    • Regularly administrate configurations, workflows, security groups, and user access to application platforms

    • Document the installation, configuration, software validation or qualification, and backup and recovery plans for application platforms

    • Monitors designated applications and takes corrective action to prevent or minimize system down time

    • Open, manage, and resolve applications issues with external application vendors

    • Define and execute on process improvement and performance optimization opportunities

    • Assist with application development or custom configurations as needed

    • Assist with infrastructure system and server administration as needed

    • Complete documentation for implementation procedures, test validation, and support processes

    • Create and normalize database schemas for applications as applicable

    • Create and administer scripting and automated workflow procedures for applications

    • Identify, communicate, and mitigate potential technical risks with platforms and drive system troubleshooting activities

    • Encourage collaboration and cooperation between multiple stakeholder groups (e.g. business customers, users, IT development, IT infrastructure, and IT support teams)

    • Maintain an in-depth knowledge-base of system environments for application reuse within the organization

    • Provide 24x7 support of some systems on rotating schedule (examples of systems this role may support include: Infor Enterprise Asset Management (EAM), LiveLink Enterprise Content Management (ECM), OpenText Collaboration Server, SharePoint Team Sites, Trackwise Quality Management System (QMS), Planview Project and Portfolio Management (PPM), Qlik Sense Dashboards, Library Management Systems, Knowledge Management Systems, Documentum, and home-grown Java based applications)

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science or related fields

    • Considerable experience with installation, configuration, and maintenance of web and application servers and middleware applications

    • Some experience migrating on-premise applications to SaaS and integrating enterprise applications with various API approaches

    • Some experience in a Windows and/or Linux environment

    • Some experience working with custom built Java based applications

    • Some experience working with Microsoft SQL server and/or Oracle or relation object mapping tools (hibernate, OJB, etc.) and scripting tools

    • Some experience with software development lifecycle methodologies, including Agile

    • Some experience with application servers like Tomcat, JBoss, and BEA Weblogic

    • Some experience with Microsoft Active Directory, VMware, Cisco FlexPod, and NetApp storage 

    • Experience in troubleshooting complex technical issues with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills 

    • Ability to work with cross functional teams, consultants, vendors, contractors, and other department subject matter experts
