Overview

The Compliance Counsel is responsible for managing and providing legal advice and support related primarily to a wide range of compliance program based agreements and associated activities across business entities and functions in a manner consistent with Cook's Global Ethics & Compliance Program and within global and local legal requirements.

Responsibilities

• Develop an excellent working understanding of the Cook organization, 
  business activities, and Cook Global Ethics & Compliance Program
• Assist in improving the legal processes in effect regarding contract management
• Serve as a subject matter expert on relevant global regulations affecting the company's business activities such as the Anti-Kickback Statute, AdvaMed, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and False Claims Act
• In collaboration with the E&C team and legal team:
  - Create and enhance policies and standard operating procedures to 
  provide guidance to Cook companies and divisions affecting Cook business activities
  - Monitor updates and changes in laws and regulations and maintain  
  policies and procedures to comply with the same.
• Advise functional groups and appropriate members of senior management and business teams of updates to laws and regulations

• Manage temporary attorneys and staff
• Develop and participate in educational and training programs, ensuring appropriate employees and management are knowledgeable of pertinent standards, policies and SOPs
• Must have the ability to work autonomously as necessary
• Must work and interact effectively and professionally with and for others
  throughout various levels of the global organization
• Must keep leadership of the law department and the company properly
  and timely informed about legal issues facing the business
• Must strictly adhere to safety requirements
• Must maintain company quality and quantity standards
• Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
• Excellent problem solving skills and ability to work in collaborative and
  independent work situations and environments with minimal supervision
• Ability to work in collaborative and independent work situations

 

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience with compliance agreements in the life
  sciences industry
• Juris Doctorate degree with academic credentials from an ABA
  accredited law school
• Must have a good working knowledge of compliance regulations governing the life science industry

• Admitted to practice in the state of Indiana or admitted to practice in a        
  state that offers reciprocity with the state of Indiana
• Demonstrated organizational skills
• Strong administrative skills and well-developed management skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is essential

 

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations
• Majority of work is performed in general office environment
• Sitting for extended periods, utilizes close visual acuity for working with computers, etc.

• Ability to travel globally to interact with development, commercial, and third party entities to support contract requirements
• Travel including domestic, international and weekends as needed
• Attends and leads various strategic and informational meetings
• Requires occasional early morning or evening teleconferences
