This position is located at our Spencer, Indiana facility approximately 16 miles east of our Bloomington facility. The Spencer facility supports the manufacturing of urological, reproductive health and critical care product lines.

The Production Engineer at Cook Spencer plans, directs, and coordinates manufacturing processes for medical device products, and supports Operations in a way to assure a quality product is produced in a timely manner.  The Production Engineer works with Operations, Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs to improve existing product designs and processes to increase throughput, decrease operational costs, or improve quality.



  • Communicate with production to understand their concerns/needs including determining root cause, corrective and preventive actions when necessary
  • Troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing issues
  • Evaluate equipment needs and support maintenance/calibration
  • Writing/updating specifications
  • Develop and implement manufacturing processes
  • Utilize statistical techniques to analyze data and aid in decision making
  • Writing protocols, executing against them and providing evidence through written reports for work being performed to supplement decision making
  • Develop and implement project plans
  • Establish and execute against deadlines
  • Driving cost reduction and efficiency improvement projects
  • Follow all quality system procedures, FDA, ISO, safety, and environmental standards is required
  • Understanding and executing process validation activities
  • Be a liaison between production and vendors
  • Understand the process and product development process
  • Evaluate and investigate non-conformances and complaints
  • Act as resource for operational departments for materials, equipment and process upgrades
  • Work to transfer intra-Cook company products into operations

Desired Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required
  • Ability to communicate all levels and functions of the organization
  • Project management skills are very useful in developing project time lines and planning
  • Minitab statistical software is beneficial for data analysis
  • Microsoft office (word, excel, power point, access, project) are useful applications
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as in a team environment
  • Capability to develop skills and share those skills with others is a must
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at one time and handle new issues as they arise


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Production, or Manufacturing Engineering, or related field; or experience of such kind and amount as to provide a comparable background
  • 3-5 years’ of experience in a fast paced manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and update as necessary
