The Medical Director collaborates across Cook business functions and business units, applying their clinical knowledge and expertise to support device risk assessment, regulatory submissions, product development, internal and external training, global reimbursement efforts, market research, and sales and marketing efforts.
Key responsibilities include providing clinical oversight for COOK Medical documents, interacting with external stakeholders (including clinicians and notified bodies), mentoring Associate Medical Directors, and maintaining industry knowledge.
Clinical and Medical expert:
The Medical Director will develop and maintain a deep knowledge and expertise in their clinical area of responsibility relevant to both new and existing products, and the clinical procedures in which they are used.
This includes an understanding of the risks, benefits, patient selection, and treatment options. The Medical Director is responsible for being aware of scientific and clinical trends within their area. The Medical Director will develop relationships with key clinicians in their assigned therapeutic area with the intent of furthering a deeper understanding of that area.
Cross functional support:
Participates in the development of and provides clinical review of Cook documents that will be seen by internal and/or external customers.
Collaborates with Regulatory Affairs, Reimbursement, Commercial, Research and Development, Marketing, Product Managers, Quality Assurance, Engineering, and other internal groups The Medical Director develops and maintains working relationships with these internal groups.
The Medical Director independently completes tasks of high complexity, scope, and importance and completes them with very high quality.
Mentorship and Medical Affairs business:
Displays a thorough understanding of the medical device life cycle, the role of Medical Affairs and how it interfaces with functions within the Cook organization.
The Medical Director will provide direction and guidance to the Associate Medical Director for the completion of deliverables for Medical Affairs customers.
