Overview

The Cafeteria Staff at Cook Winston-Salem is responsible for food preparation and serving, clean up, menu planning, and ordering stock.

Responsibilities

• Follow proper food storage and handling regulations to conform to local and State requirements and pass Serve Safe
• Maintain accuracy in weighing, measuring and portioning food
• Keep work areas clean, sanitize work surfaces and serving utensils, mops floors, remove trash daily, and perform other assigned cleaning duties
• Operate electric, steam and gas cooking equipment; clean equipment and pots and pans after use; initiate repairs as needed
• Prepare high-quality food according to standardized recipes in the correct portions in a cost-conscious manner for a cafeteria
• Take temperature of hot foods prior to mealtime on temperature charts
• Keep beverages (coffee and tea) prepared for dispensing
• Follow the menu plan, adjusting for nutritionally equivalent substitutes, leftovers, and emergencies

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Ability to read/write/understand work charts and other related documents
• Minimum 2 years experience in a Cafeteria style cooking or steam table environment

 

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift or move items weighing 10-30 pounds.  Items over 30 lbs. requires assistance
• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations

• Majority of day is spent in pulling, pushing, lifting and moving around the building
• Must have clean attire and hair be covered either by a bonnet or hat
• Ability to wear gloves majority of day with frequent changing
