Overview

The Research and Development Engineering Specialist supports the research and development of novel medical devices and works within an interdisciplinary team of engineers, specialists, and technicians to advance the strategic goals of the company.

Responsibilities

• Independently design original, complex devices, fixtures, equipment, and or processes
• Use independent judgment to make decisions on significant issues
• Run short term, long-term, and/or design focused projects, or complete significant tasks critical to projects
• Possess and demonstrate expert fabrication skills in areas such as advanced machining, tool-making, mold-making, welding, metallurgy/heat treating, and plastic prototyping
• Generate accurate documentation of concepts, prototypes, drawings, protocols and testing, and prototype processes

• Provide comprehensive support in the execution of R&D projects, including assisting with design, prototyping, testing and documentation to ensure successful project outcomes
• Serve as a mentor, trainer, and resource to the department for aspects critical to performing job functions
• Must work and interact effectively and professionally with and for others throughout various levels of the global organization
• Prioritize work based on assigned goals
• Maintain and increase knowledge related to the team’s focus and relevant company systems

Qualifications

• AS or BS degree in relevant field; or
• 2 years experience that relates directly to the above essential job functions/duties
• Experience working independently and with minimal supervision
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Software (ie Word, Excel)

Physical Requirements:

• Personal protective equipment including safety glasses, lab coat and gloves required in most areas associated with this position
• Sitting for extended periods, utilizes close visual acuity for working with computers, etc.
• Works partially under general office environmental conditions
• Moderate exposure to noise level in the work environment that is moderate to occasionally loud

• Occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds
• Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to grasp, carry, feel or touch; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear
