Senior Research and Development Engineer

The Senior Engineer, Research & Development at Cook Research Incorporated is responsible for leading and supporting project deliverables for research and development of novel design concepts for new medical devices.  This candidate will be expected to work with an interdisciplinary project team to identify clinical needs, formulate new concepts, design prototypes, conduct feasibility assessments and produce documentation for new product development.  This position will support research for the Critical Care and Urology Specialties within the MedSurg Division of Cook Medical. 

• Collaborate with and lead interdisciplinary teams of scientists, engineers and product management to discover and develop novel medical devices
• Analyze, interpret, and report results; and identify problems and implement solutions
• Assure that project deliverables and tasks are technically excellent and completed in a timely fashion.  Interact with technical leadership to plan, complete and report results of experiments, tests, prototype development, literature surveys, etc. that contribute to projects
• Document deliverables.  Assure that appropriate documentation is kept detailing project history (reports, laboratory notebooks, invention disclosures, scientific literature, meeting notes, etc.)
• Maintain and develop the technical capabilities necessary to provide technical solutions for Cook and customer needs.  This may include, but is not limited to: Technical Courses, conferences, specific software training, university courses, etc.
• Support the development of intellectual property relevant to areas of research
• Ability to work in both collaborative and independent work situations and environments
• Must have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and project management experience

• Minimum Work Experience/Educational Requirements: 

• PhD in Biomedical or Mechanical Enginering with 2 years relevant experience; or
• MS degree in same with 3 years relevant experience; or
• BS degree in same with 5 years relevant experience,

• Technical knowledge in one or more core areas:  Biomedical engineering, mechanical design, medical device materials, CAD, Design Controls, Medical Device Design
• Innovative:  ability to innovate in the development of novel concepts and create solutions to technical problems with an eye toward providing practical designs in a timely manner
• Task oriented:  demonstrated knowledge and ability to plan, prioritize, and coordinate the completion of deliverables and tasks, must be highly flexible, have a hands-on approach and be willing to take initiative
• Communication skills:  ability to effectively communicate through written and verbal means and constructively collaborate with colleagues is required
• Professional:  ability to remain professional and positive in all personal interactions, and provide an example of good work ethic, a willingness to help, and personal discipline in achieving goals
