An exciting career opportunity, at Cook Advanced Technologies,  is currently available to be part of an organization responsible for the research, design, and development of novel medical devices.  This position involves generating concepts and prototypes that can be used for bench-top and animal lab testing, and developing the designs such that they can be manufactured at small scale and easily scaled up as needed.  The function will primarily be involved with projects in early research and development phases, undergoing initial or early clinical trials in both the US and OUS. 


This position requires a technically sound engineer capable of driving a project to completion with minimal supervision.  A qualified candidate should be able to perform independent design work utilizing all available tools and resources and communicate well with colleagues and customers.  Job functions may include:

  • Gathering and reviewing design expectations from clinicians and end-users
  • Generate design concepts: CAD modeling and prototyping
  • Practice design for manufacturability
  • Perform engineering analysis on designs
  • Analyze and document design and process risks
  • Develop/ refine manufacturing processes
  • Perform design and process verification/validation activities
  • Document activities in design history file
  • Provide leadership and mentoring for technical and manufacturing personnel
  • Work together on a team with project leaders, development engineers, physicians, clinical, regulatory and quality team members



  • MS or PhD in mechanical engineering or equivalent industry experience preferred, Bachelors degree with 5+ years experience required
  • Experience in the mechanical design of manufactured components, mechanisms and systems
  • Experience or expertise in design for manufacturing
  • Experience with engineering design and analysis tools: CAD, FEA, etc.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both spoken and written form
  • Ability and commitment to operate in a team-based environment
