The Database Administrator (DBA) III at Cook MyoSite, Inc. designs, develops, implements, and administers database solutions to meet the operational requirements of the company. This is a remote role with occasional travel to Pittsburgh, PA for on-site support. 


• Plan, design, implement, upgrade, and support databases ensuring system scalability, security, performance, and reliability.
• Support production databases associated with vendor provided COTS applications.
• Collaborate with IT, architects, system analysts, business analysts, and departmental system owners to understand business and industry requirements for database implementation and production support.
• Develop data models for applications, metadata tables, views or related database structures.
• Set up and maintain database clusters, load balancing configurations, along with backup and recovery processes.
• Execute tasks for SQL Server installation and configuration using SQL scripts
• Execute tasks for SQL Server backup and restore (planning, implementing, reviewing, and troubleshooting backups as well as configuring SQL Server Recovery Models)
• Provide SQL Server and database troubleshooting (knowledge of basic SQL Server errors, ability to interpret SQL Server/SSIS/Windows error logs, stored procedures)
• For new databases or updates to existing databases, author specification documents, using accepted notations, which describe server and database architectures along with database schemas and commissioning documents (i.e. performance tests, security tests, data migration tests, etc.).
• Executes commissioning; supports computer system validation team’s installation qualification (IQ), operational qualification (OQ), and performance qualification (PQ) activities as needed.
• Support data migration by development of ETL scripting (i.e. shell + SQL) and by using tools such as SSIS.
• To enhance database performance, monitor and report resource consumption, create/modify indexes, propose hardware enhancements.
• To demonstrate security and data integrity, periodically audit and report on data access and consistency of company’s databases.
• Creates and reviews Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and training materials; conducts training for SOPs.
• Practices and stays current with ISPE GAMP best practices, FDA GxP regulations, and applicable ISO standards.
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; obtaining technology certifications.


• Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Business Systems, Business Administration, or 10+ years direct, relevant experience in development, delivery, and support of enterprise-wide databases and database server to provide a comparable background

• Minimum of 3-6 years' experience in performing data/systems analysis and working with databases is preferred
• 3+ years of experience administering Microsoft SQL Servers is preferred
• 3+ years of writing Structured Query Language (SQL) is preferred

• Advanced working knowledge of SQL Server and Windows Server
• Skilled in writing Structured Query Language (SQL)
• Skilled in SQL Server Administration
• Skilled in server-side programs and scripting (PowerShell preferred)
• Knowledge of the Microsoft Business Intelligence stack (SSRS, SSIS)
• Desire to be certified or possess certification as a Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA): Database Administration, and/or Database Development

• Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software, and other general office equipment.
• Basic understanding of cGMP, 21 CFR Part 11, and related regulations associated with Bio/Pharmaceutical product manufacturing


Physical Requirements:

• Setting (Remote): When working remotely, the expectation for the employee's travel time to our Pittsburgh, PA site should be typically less than 5-6 hours, with the maximum being 24 hours. This travel will support on-site situations such as operational emergencies, physical testing/configuration of systems/equipment, or the occasional training.

• Ability to conduct and hear ordinary conversation and telephone communication.
• Must be able to work extended hours beyond normal work schedule to include, but not limited to, evenings, weekends, extended work hours and/or extra work hours, sometimes on short notice as required.
• Ability to work under specific time constraints.
• Must be able to sit at desk, in meetings and/or work on a computer for long or extended periods of time.
• Visual and manual acuity for working with computers and equipment.
